Laurent Sailla was born on September 12, 1973, in Pau, in the heart of a Bearn country crossed by history with passion and panache. Castles witness to a conquest or royalty, medieval bastides and other fortified villages shape this country and give it the bitter and tenacious character that built its legend.
It is with Jean-Luc, his father and mentor in painting, that Laurent is impregnated of a great artistic culture while developing under his wing different techniques: drawing in pencil, in sanguine or in ink ( Rotring), acrylic or oil on canvas, washes with Indian ink or liquid inks, a technique very similar to that of watercolor. Some of his washes have a peculiarity, the "dripping", or controlled drips comparable to tears.
Jean-Luc dies unfortunately too early, and this mourning still lives today the desire of art that Laurent carries in him, as a tribute and a recognition to the lost artist and to the artist that he himself becomes. It is partly in memory of his father that he will pick up the brush a few years later.
In this entre-deux, Laurent devotes himself to scientific studies and has occupied for several years a post of engineer. His job is passionate and he still practices it today. Professional artist-painter in secondary activity, that's how he defines himself today.
Over the course of a personal story sometimes painful, his inner states take shape on the canvas, in a disturbing optical illusion. Joyful illusion carried by the colors crossed by straight lines, geometric illusion by self-mockery of a professional scientific practice that returns the viewer to a certain rigor at the same time presides for the artist a process of poeticization of social constraints that the we find in the work of Marcel Duchamp and pop art, source of inspiration without end.
The whole of his work is also tinged with a great impregnation of the most classical works that he reinterprets and appropriates, such as The Mona Lisa, or Venus de Milo, companions of a solitary life, without attachment, without family , and yet the engine of his approach. Absolute paradox of the quest for a humanity that he can not trust and that he venerates through his art. The canvas as an interface with the world, in chiaroscuro that testifies to painful inner debates, in the sandstone of the thousand derisions invented by the artist. Laurent Sailla thus paints life, love, sublimating emotions, capturing souls, in a work focused on the color of the feelings and the specific research of a "other" feminine, or its double ideal, even if this person has no real existence.
His steps lead him today to a desire for forms and sculptures which announces a coming stage as a challenge to take up his path of solitude to meet the world.

Edward Hopper rightly said, "If you could say it in words, there would be no reason to paint it."
The tangram is a game of Chinese origin. The word tangram means "seven boards of trickery," or play of the seven pieces. It is a kind of puzzle or puzzle, formed by a dissection of the square into seven elementary pieces. From these seven pieces, the idea consists in reproducing forms symbolizing objects, characters or animals. Nearly 2000 combinations are possible. This game is one of the most popular puzzles in the world and an inspiration for some shimmering and colorful works.

One of my favorite subjects being the woman, and especially their face, I painted a series of portraits based on dripping, echoing my own deep melancholy.
A smile and some tears
The technique of the wash with acrylic inks lends itself easily to dripping, or drips comparable to tears.

My first love: pencil drawing h1>
Here are some examples of pencil drawing, with the objective of precision of the line and the faithful reproduction of the model. Some drawings date back more than 20 years.
But recently I was invited to the drawing room of Béziers and my drawings, in imposed format, caused a sensation.
